MEMORAMA
|
|
In January 2006, a new venture was launched to include and encourage young people between the age of 10 and 18 to participate in MEMORAMA STAGE SCHOOL. "YOU, ME AND MRS JONES" by Tony Horitz This
short, light-hearted comedy centres on two unemployed teenagers, uncertain about
themselves and the world around them.
They are sent on a mission by the mysterious “Jack” to find “heroes
fit to save the day”.
On their quest, they encounter a hotchpotch of humanity - a violent
street gang, a cranky religious sect, an unscrupulous rock group, television
characters and a family of vagrants.
Surprisingly, it is in this final encounter that they appear to find
their “hero” - in the elusive Mrs Jones.
Unable
to persuade her to return with them, they go back to Jack, only to find that he
too has disappeared. Yet all is not lost — on their mission they have gained
the knowledge that they are no longer No one and Nobody, but Some one and
Somebody. As well as being a
fast-moving comedy, it also makes a serious statement. Two performances by nearly twenty young people were enjoyed by enthusiastic audiences on March 2nd and 3rd 2006. Under the direction of Robert Brierley, the Stage School members developed their acting talents as well as technical and backstage elements. "UNDER MILK WOOD" by Dylan Thomas This play was chosen to coincide with Aberaeron Bicentenary year. The company had by this time increased in number to thirty-five, and almost each member had more than one part to play in this classic. The young people concentrated on the different and diverse qualities of the characters, and were responsible for their own costumes and props. The First and Second Voices were expertly performed by two adult Memorama members - Roger March and Caroline Dalziel-Riddell. All the young people once again gained confidence in their performing abilities, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
